Worship with Aaron Gillespie
March 14, 2011
When I was a junior in high school (2003), my musical tastes started to change. I have always been a huge fan of Christian rock, but it started to get old to me. So a friend of mine loaned me a cd by a band called UnderOath, and warned me that it wasn’t what I was used to. I stuck it in my cd player and almost instantly fell in love. Although the metalcore vibe and screamo part of it were cool, the clean vocals are what really caught my attention. And the really crazy thing was that Aaron, the singer, played the drums also. WHAT!?!!?! So after becoming an insanely huge UO fan, following them on Myspace (remember that?) relentlessly, and studying Aaron’s drumming techniques, I learned that Aaron had started a side project called The Almost in which he wrote all of the music and recorded all of the instruments on his own. Like I needed another reason to look up to this guy! So I went and saw one of his first shows ever in Dallas, and there was only about 15-30 other people in the building. It was so awesome! Anyways, I have been a huge supporter of him for a long time, and when I found out that he was going to be leading worship at my church, I immediately texted my buddy on staff there to secure my place as photographer for the evening. I have seen The Almost twice and UnderOath about 5 times, and it was really cool to see Aaron without all of the production, strictly worshipping God and nothing else. Here are some of the photos I was able to grab…
